The Sheraton Dhaka in Banani now offers signature dishes from Chef Yong Kah Heng, a Malaysian national and head of Japanese cuisine, at Yumi, the hotel’s Japanese restaurant.
Originally trained as an electrical engineer, Heng now has around 21 years of experience as a professional chef and even trains his team in Japanese cuisine, having completed a food handling course (HACCP) from the Quantum Food Academy. in 2009 and the NEA Food Handling. Course in Singapore in 2013 and Basic 5S system certification in 2010.

He worked at Genki Sushi in Malaysia as a sushi chef, at Jushi as a chef and also worked at Sakae Sushi, Kaz Japanese Fusion Sushi in Singapore; Kuriya Fine Dining in Singapore; IZY Bar & Dining in Singapore, etc. He then worked as an assistant to Chef Narisawa (owner of two Michelin-starred restaurants in Japan); Japanese dinner Sorae Sushi in Vietnam; and finally, Rosewood Phnom Penh, located in Cambodia, where he worked as a Japanese chef.
Yong Kah Heng has worked with excellent chefs from Nobu and Zema and has the ability to run a busy Sushi Bar, Ramen Bar, Robatayaki, Tempura, Kaiseki and Omakase. With great understanding of high profile events, he can ensure a pleasant experience for Sheraton Dhaka guests.
